In mid-July, not long after returning home from two weeks of camp in Indiana, we flew back to Indy (without the kids) for the wedding of two former youth group students. Michael Pfister and Lindsay Deuser were long-time members of the youth group at Fall Creek. Marty even had the privilege of baptizing Lindsay in the ocean during a mission trip to Mexico. Incidentally, it was on that trip that sparks first flew between the two of them.
Michael and Lindsay have remained close friends with that group from our youth group, so we were able to hang out with that crew again for a couple of days. Kelly, Heath, Kristin, Brittany, Jeremy, Ryan, Sarah–it was so wonderful to be together again! We loved reconnecting with a lot of the parents, too. And the fancy parties and amazing wedding reception were like rich, sugary icing on the cake.
I’m not much of a cryer, but while Michael stood at the front of the church beside Marty and watched his (divinely beautiful) bride come down the aisle, I got pretty choked up. Our kids are getting to be all grown up.
It made me realize once again that God definitely called us to do what we are doing, because it would have taken nothing less to pull us away from youth ministry.
Congratulations, Mr. and Mrs. Pfister!
