Well, it snuck up on us.  This week, Monday through Friday, we’ll be in St. Louis along with Marty’s brother, Matt, and our sister-in-law, Kristin, trying to make the best of The Worst Possible Vacation Ever.

In case you missed it, this article explains in greater detail.  To summarize, Marty’s father, Lawrence, is in stage 2 of Alzheimer’s disease.  The Reiswig family carries a very rare gene which causes familial early-onset Alzheimer’s.  Marty and Matt are at risk of having this gene and developing Alzheimer’s at an early age–usually the mid- to late-fifties.  (Here’s a short New York Times video about it.)

We’re going to St. Louis this week so that Marty and Matt can participate in the DIAN study, which is for adult children of a parent who has this gene.  We are hopeful that this study, along with others, will result in breakthroughs in treatment for this disease.

We appreciate your prayers this week as Marty and Matt are tested, scanned, and poked in the name of scientific research.  We especially covet your prayers that effective treatments will be found.  Thank you.
