We didn’t go to church today… and today was Easter! It was the first time I can remember not going to a church building to celebrate Easter in my life. I kind of missed the crowds of new visitors, everyone dressed in their new spring best, and watching little ones scramble for plastic eggs with candy inside. But not really, because that’s basically what we did at our house too! The difference was the size (everyone knew each other by the end), the pitch-in brunch (with Jaclyn’s exquisite crepe cake), and the trampoline (why don’t they have trampolines at church? Oh yeah, massive liability.)
I have to admit, I didn’t really miss it – no offense, Pastor Reid. We had an incredible time of fellowship with laughter, singing, prayer, food, kids playing, and lots of scrambling for plastic eggs. In fact, the girls enjoyed the egg hunting so much that they kept re-hiding and hunting again. Matt Rampey shared a thought-provoking message and led in an engaging group discussion. I loved good Friday and Easter this year. It was intimate and meaningful.
I remember sharing with someone a few months ago what we want our church plant to be like, and they simply said, “It sounds like Cheers–with a Mission.” I like that description.

Who’d of thunk it? A group of believers meeting in a home to worship in the presence of the Lord. It sounds so…..New Testament.

Great description of Easter in a house church, Marty! OK if I share this in the MRT blog sometime?
