DENVER – A significant number of Hispanics have abandoned their traditional congregations to join so-called “organic churches,” which generally meet in private homes and where there is no formal leadership.

“A high percentage of Latinos and African-Americans are attracted to organic churches not only in the U.S. but also in Latin America,” Frank Viola, the author of several books on what he has called “the radical reform” of the church, told Efe.

Viola, who this year will give a speech in Mexico on the matter and has worked with groups in South America, is the founder of Present Testimony Ministry, with central offices in Gainesville, Florida.

He defines the organic church as “a group of people who learn together to live the divine life. It’s a community in which everyone knows each other and everyone participates.”…
